Quill Kids
is a recreational program that guides budding authors ages 6
to 13, through a challenging yet rewarding experience
of creative and non-fiction writing. Our goal is to
introduce excitement and understanding to the writing process, in an
informal group setting, using innovative techniques that make
putting words on paper naturally easy and
fun.
The Quill Kids
concept and success comes from director Iretta Bell,
elementary school literacy teacher and Fellow of the National
Writing Project.
“After years of
observing young students languishing in the field of writing, I
discovered that when creative writing becomes exciting, the attitude
carries over to academic writing. Increased creativity and having
fun organizing thoughts helps students with the entire school
curriculum, besides opening up the possibility of a lifelong
personal hobby.”
In three-hour workshops, after
school enrichment programs and Quill Kids Club, participants
learn to organize ideas, write short stories, poetry and
non-fiction, using fun and creative
drills. Time is then given to write their
ideas in a Quill Kid journal or hand-crafted Mini book. Share-time
culminates each get together.
Arrangements can be made to attend
single or multiple sessions.
